West Philadelphia Data and Information Resources (West Philly Data) serves as a channel for information sharing, community building and economic development within the West Philadelphia area.

West Philly Data supports the development of an advanced information infrastructure for providing information about community-based projects, housing studies, and policy research while facilitating information flow to all users.

Developed in collaboration with the Center for Community Partnerships, the University of Pennsylvania Library System, Cartographic Modeling Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Wharton GIS Laboratory, InfoR incorporates publicly accessible information from sources including:

  • the Census Bureau
  • municipal records and corporate or civic associations
  • on-going individual research such as the Center for Community Partnerships' Directory of Research University of Pennsylvania data related to Philadelphia (e.g. the School of Social Work's social asset maps)

Available to researchers, community leaders and public officials, this collection provides numeric, cartographic and text-based data. InfoR enables users to combine information on housing type and tenure, assessments, education, health, income, employment, crime, environmental conditions and other factors. Data is accessible by neighborhood, tract, and zip code boundaries. This data may be used to link health, education and housing factors in a specific school cluster, allowing researchers and community groups to assess a correlation between school performance and living situations. Using complete data sets for a specific neighborhood creates opportunities for university-community collaboration to develop strategic plans for comprehensive community renewal. Similar techniques and collaborative approaches were used to great advantage in such places as the severely depressed South Bronx in the early 1990s.

The boundaries and names of West Philadelphia follow the designation developed by the Philadelphia Police Department. Our service is divided into eight main categories: People (demographics), Housing, Health, Education, Reports, History, Community Services, and Links.
